  1. What paint did you use as this is a job I'm planning on doing and still not 100% settled on what paint will give a good long term finish.
  2. Its mostly suspension work at the moment front and rear but who knows where my rebuild will end up. This looks good had a quick lookand will be useful thanks
  3. Anyone got a link to a reliable site with exploded part diagrams with part numbers? I have limited faith in dealership parts departments so would like to be able to print off an exploded diagram to take in with me when I go bolt shopping. Also worth checking if you can still get bits before cutting them up for easy removal.
  4. I'll just keep my eyes out for a proper gas mig then. New ones seem to start arpund £200 plud gas and metal so getting close to the cost of the repair for a mobile guy if I do the donkey work striping interior out and cutting back the rust etc
  5. My understanding of gasless welding is there is a flux coating on the wire that shields the weld the same way the gas does. It then needs cleaned off after welding but with gas you don't. Plus the disposable gas canisters cost about £10 for 10 mins welding so soon add up. Part of my thinking now is black Friday is coming up and hoped to get a bargain welder but might just watch eBay and pick up a used one. But that comes with the issue of is it being sold because it's crap or they no longer need a welder as the buy and sell rental cost was cheaper than a body shop.
  6. I am looking at getting a welder as I need to patch up a couple of holes in the floor of Betty. I completed a welding evening course so now feel brave enough to actually weld something real not just some bit of scrap. I know I will get a better finish of weld with a gas mig but as I will be welding on my back out on the driveway in Scotland I think I should get a passable looking weld from gasless as there will be less issues due to the wind. A quick look online has Euro Car Parts doing this for £100 which seems like too much of a bargain? Mighty Mig 90 What is other peoples opinions on these should I be looking else where it will mainly be for body work patches occasionally so I don't fancy spending hundreds for something that will spend most of its time in the corner of the garage.
  7. After a more sober chat today it looks like this isn't a goer, too much risk to our friendship. It may go down the route of letting him borrow her in exchange for some beer rather than anything else. Well that depends on if I put her back on the road next year.
  8. This ain't some guy I met down the pub he was my best man at my wedding and will be his father to my kid. So I kinda trust him in fact I trust him more than my wife to look after Betty lol. If he writes it off it's only metal and would be more worried about him than the car. Running costs tax & insurance split 50/50, fuel top up when you park up. I can't see either of us putting mega miles on her so things like tyres are probably not going to come up, general servicing we would do together and split parts cost. I know there will be unknown break downs and repairs eg the clutch I just put in, I can't ask for a 50% share as its my car so I will end up paying the lion share of all big bills and I accept that. The way I see it if I ended up with £50 off a £200 bill I would have had to do it anyway so its a few quid in my pocket. He works weekends so wants a weekend car during the week when he is off and I'm at work, so I still get a weekend car at the weekend. I'm sure there are things I should be thinking about
  9. I was chatting to my mate and he wants to get back into retro car ownership but funds and storage space are holding him back. He knows I'm planning on taking Betty off road for a year to 18 months due to expected lack of time to use her. He has suggested (after a couple of beers) we share Betty and the running costs. First thoughts are I trust him as a driver so no worries there, but expect insurance costs will go up as an extra driver, fuel would be a case of top up before parking up, tax and repairs we would split. Anything I'm missing? Car will be stored at mine as I have a driveway, he lives 25 miles away so I guess he will drive his daily down and swap with Betty use her for a couple days and swap back. Has anyone done this and how did you find it?

  11. Where is the problem with runnng E10 fuel? Is it fuel pipes, injectors, timing etc I'm sure I've heard of ethanol eatting through rubber fuel hoses, so if this is the problem then an upgrade to modern pipes. Is it a new ECU program to compensate
  12. Watched the clock turn over to 160,000 miles. Need to look at timing belt it's getting on a few years now but not too many miles since it was last done
  13. Paid the garage for fixing my snapped wheel studs but due to work I can't get her back till the weekend. I need to put some trouble free miles on her or even though I will regret selling she is going.

  15. Not filled up on petrol for a couple of weeks so looks like it'll be fun next time I need to fill up So glad I can run the daily on biodiesel 99p/ltr so not at the filling station as much anymore to watch the price increases.

Thanks for the advice I've not been ignoring this thread just been busy with work and the wifes idea of just a wee job round the house which turned into pulling down walls stripping 30 years with of wall paper argh. Anyway tenants started paying more rent so this may not be needed we will see but won't hold my breath
  17. We don't want to sell a third parties property but surly they would need proof of ownership otherwise anyone could claim to own it. As their business was buying, fixing and selling cars we are quite confident they belong to the tenant as a sole trader. But will check the DVLA link thanks. I will be doing nothing without authorisation from higher up in the company. We really don't want the hassle of parting out this crap and hope it will scare him into paying his rent but doubt it will.
  18. From what I have been lead to believe is that it's not our problem it's his. He hasn't paid his rent and we are taking control of all of the contents of the unit to cover his debt. If someone can prove ownership that's different but otherwise it will be sold. Tools and stock are easy to sell but the vehicles may end up crushed for scrap which is a shame with something like a classic mini.
  19. I work for a company that owns and rents out industrial units we have a tenant that hasn't paid rent for several months. Lots of promises and partial payments but we are going to evict them and take control of the contents of the unit to sell to cover the debt, it won't. There are several cars in the unit some we may just fill with scrap metal and get collected. Others are worth a bit more and from a casual look will run so could sell but no log book would this be a huge issue in selling? Would you buy a car with no log book from a company I know it could be iffy from a private seller?
