    Hi AMS.

You are highly recommended by all the forum guys, who gave me the link to you. I have posted a couple of questions since joining the forum a few months ago.

Incase you haven't read my items,my story is as follows, I had just sold a Calibra after 10 years of trouble free ownership. I wanted a change and allways liked the Celica. Really wanted a GT,but didn't really have the funds. Looked at about 6 cars, including 3 t-sport's &3 140's. All had issues and problems which needed a lot spent on them. Then saw a 2001 140 with a GT bodykit fitted& different alloys. Went to see it. The guy was a bit of a knob, but I liked the car. It drove fine and had a bit of history&Mot.  Bought it for £1500. Following me home,my wife said it smoked on acceleration. Thought if I serviced it ,this would sort it out. It didn't.Then I found out about the oil burning. A litre every 200 miles! Also it is hesitant at revs near 4000. If you drive normal through the gears you don't notice. Thought i'd get emissions tested even though Mot is till april.Sure enough it failed big time. Now trying Ametech Restore in the engine , with VW 505 oil, after speaking to their expert.Doubtfull its doing anything, but after reading up about the 140 engine problems,i had to try.

Come to conclusion another revised 140 engine from a later car is the best solution.

Are the later celicas ok with the extra oil runaways/revised pistons?

Thought about a 190 upgrade but seems to involve a lot more extra things, gearbox, loom ecu etc.

Engine fitting and pricing seems to vary so much, from £750 fitted for 140,or £1999 for a t-sport engine alone!

I love the car and would like to keep it,but cant really spend thousands on it.

What do you think, have you done many 140 swaps for the later 140

Think you are my new year wish !

    Many thanks

    Keith
