  4. cool! cracking chap is roger, salt of the earth. he's just sold 3 of his 4 st205's..... nobody knows what his "team" will be running next year!
  5. fair enough pal. but remember sprinting adds far far less stress to your vehicle than a track day, uses less fuel, less rubber, and the outlay(entry fees) is around the same. hopefully one day you'll be financially comfortable enough to join us fella
  6. it isn't expensive mate. see what paul says and you can even hire a helmet for £20 for a one off try. I wish I could afford a fancy gen 7...... it all depends where you put your cash good man, me too
  7. I ran 7x17" ET35 on my 182 with lowering springs, as long as they aren't silly width you should be fine
  8. mate, its not top of my priorities at the moment but i've always wanted to have it done, so wouldn't even look elsewhere if a club member with a good reputation had the facilities
  9. Apologies if this has been mentioned by others in here (its rare i'm let out!) but I just wanted to take an opportunity to say well done to our Celica Club members in this years Toyota Sprint Series Championship. The above table shows Our very own Chris Girdler (skirmish) taking his chassis and transmission tuned Gen 7 Tsport to the Class C Pro win, and 14th overall. Member Joe Tapply (gravel) got a great result in his supercharged Gen 7, with a class result of 4th in A3 Pro and 16th overall against very tough (mainly ST205's) competition. Another mention should also go out to Paul Atkinson (paulgtt), who joined us for a couple of rounds in his track prepped ST205, Paul also plans to join us next year in the Class X (anything goes) stable, with his Evo 6. Well done guys! If I have forgotten anyone then please post up I'm terrible for that. If anybody is interested in the series, be it car prep for 2014 down to spectating, keep an eye out in the motorsport section- we'll happily answer any questions for anything to do with the series. Thanks, Dan
  10. awesome, some great stories there not had any of this myself really except when I had the gen 2 and folk used to ask what it was, but, best one I remember was when me brother had a CRX delsol SiR back when they weren't that old (90's) and a group of kids on an estate once asked "wow nice car mister, how many exhausts has it got?" brill stuff.
  11. glad no real harm was done mate! I had a similar episode with the driveshaft on my st182- one morning it felt a little "clunkier" and "grindier" (don't look those up dubs) than usual, but not bad so carried on to work. on the way home it was the same but certainly no worse, but carried on gingerly none the less- until some idiot cut me up in a CRX and tried to leave me behind, so I proved he couldn't. then- as I pulled on my driveway, a massive clank over the hump over the pavement and the car made a grinding noise terribly as I came to a stop. broken driveshaft lucky, I should coco. the only thing for those last 2 yards holding the wheel / hub on was the brake caliper / carrier. also don't beat yourself up about the bolt coming loose, it happens. my mechanic bollocked me a few years back for not fully torqueing both pinch bolts on my yaris after changing the shocks- but I had, with my trusty wrench. as a few have said on here its always best to check after a good few miles bedding in period, but lets face it, we don't all do it every time! glad all is ok now mate and its only cost you a wheel balance and change of underpants
  12. awesome link cheers for posting I've raced at least 3 of the cars in those pics over the years, and naturally come off worse this isn't helping my hankering for a 1crate5 one bit.
  13. i've had drilled (black diamond), dimpled and grooved (EBC) and blanks (blueprint / toyota) over the years and for what i do (road and sprint) they have all performed similarly. the grooves / holes also help gas build up escape too apparently. i'd avoid drilled these days just on the internet stories, but prob very rare failures and in extreme circumstances. for a road car blue print blank discs and decent make pads should be fine, but as others have said grooved can look cool they do make a little more noise and in my head might also wear the pads a little quicker but i bet theres hardly any difference. best way to improve brakes IMHO is pads. pad material will make more difference than any other component, short of shoehorning big stoppers on which is expensive and again IMHO certainly not needed for road use. they look bloody great though oh, and one note, if you ever think of going near a track stick some high temp brake fluid in- this is a must on middleweight celicas and above!
  14. dave brookes? great guy, likes a beer can bl00dy pedal too i tell thee! agree with most of the above, nice discussion containing most i've heard / read / been told etc over the years without getting heated. zuban's point cant be ignored- in the case of the supra many of the bushes are spherical and allow movement in a particular direction, in which case a poly solid replacement would be detrimental, and in some cases wear much quicker than a stock bush. BUT- i imagine also that in most cases a set of new poly's would be both much cheaper than toyota replacements and perform much better than an old fucked bush. yer pays yer money, yer takes yer chance
  15. you can get momo-nardi adapter plates for not too much dollar, try the bay- used to have one to fit my nardi classic to my gen 2. other bonus is that if its like mine one PCD will be slotted, so if "centre" is between splines you can still line it up nicely
  16. i personally dont see any harm in them at all- i understand the thoughts of clumping but as others have said the first time you use one you get quite a bit of crap and the rest of the time it will just be a bit furry, so with regular oil changes in theory shouldnt be a problem- only had NA engines mind. maybe an idea to do a removal, clean and refit after a few miles once fitted? as for cleaning i do that every time i change oil whether it has a magplug or not anyway so makes no odds* all of the engines i've worked on at work have magplugs (what we call them in the trade) but they also have very complex oil systems which probably prevent the situation insanity is suggesting its just in my mind surely an effort to remove and FOD from the oil gallerys has to be a plus point oh and PS- another plus, chances are if you drop it on removal, as its magnetic, it will stick to your sump instead of dropping into your drip tray- saves diving in to find it afterwards and as for the comments about all alloy engines- they still have steel internals dont they, this "swarf" tends to be slight edges taken off moving parts such as con rods, bearings, crank etc nothing to do with what the head and block are cast from. *disclaimer- if a mag plug furrs up and writes off your engine, don't blame me
  17. when i did the suspension on my gen5, i used generic ones from demon tweeks- i think they were powerflex ones? (the ones with the purple and yellow logo). they were great, £20 a pair IIRC. as for OEM type ones i'm not sure, will have to wait for someone else on that.
  18. ha ha cheers devious! sonic- do the bronzey thing- i really like it green has been done LOL
  19. I don't like the fact I don't have one any more
  20. I love that colour mate please note, mine look like this: so you might want to consider throwing my opinion away
  21. some good mpg's on here! makes me tempted to get a cheap 202 or 140 if i'm honest! gen5 gt used to get 32-38 gen2 st used to manage 30-35 current cars the supra gets about 26 and the yaris averages 50 best trip in the yaris yet was 67.8! and no heavy oil diseasal in sight
  22. ha ha nice one Paul, keep us posted on any test drives etc
  23. ha ha no worries johnyboy! the reasons for me choosing RWD are all highlighted in the above posts i wanted a new challenge. i think when the "next step" happens for me i'll more than likely be back in the celica fold with an ST205 to try 4WD, i'd prefer a 185 but the head says faff! if it was me with the pick of an evo or a skyline and i owned a faff i'd prob plump for the skyline myself, as its a bit more different to what you already have. I've always wanted an R32 though i bet if you test drive a supra you'll prob find it un nerving at first, but you get used to it and thats when it becomes fun. let us all know how you get on
  24. gutted to hear this mate- I love your silver one! but understand the need to move on it happens to us all eventually. that's good to hear you plan to stick around fella naturally i'd disagree with this statement- they are harder to corner fast in no doubt as stock, its just a different drive altogether- but with my budget chassis mods I managed to scalp all street class ST205's at the last sprint in my NA supra. whether I'll be able to keep that up throughout the year is another question as for the other cars on your list I've no experience of them, but they ALL sound like an exciting proposition to me, happy shopping and keep us posted
