  1. Handbrake adjustment - are the new backplates genuine Toyota OEM?  If not there may be issues with the plate/pin cable attachment flexing which will prevent correct operation of the handbrake.

      Thank you!

My garage has postponed my booking to Friday so need to wait another day.

I don't feel optimistic about the outcome.

If i feel brave tomorrow i'll phone my local Mr.T to ask how much

I'll check out Toyota Japan too

      Hi Neil

thanks for letting me know about this.

I have relayed your experience to my two mechanic friends at the garage.

The one who worked on the job is fairly expert at brakes both disc and parking drum, he did report that there seemed to be something odd and missing on the new backplate referring to it as not having a cable guide.

I'm not sure what he means but maybe the cable isn't remaining connected properly.

The other guy at the garage is a mechanical engineer, he's going to get his thinking cap on, give it a close scrutiny to see if the issue can be suitably adapted to work.

I should find out one way or another tomorrow.

After two attempts have failed i have my doubts.

Bit of a shocker really, a pair of new and genuine Mr. T backplates plus the labour to fit is a relatively large bill i wasn't expecting

Do you happen to know the part numbers for the OEM Celica backplates?

      Thanks again

      Hello

Thanks for the input, the backplates come from Denmark and are made by 'Klokkerholm'.

A patten part with over 100 sales on eBay, and no bad reviews.

I know others on this forum have them fitted and all seems well.

The actual part looks to be very well made.

I wonder is if they've installed the new shoe and spring set correctly.

Can't really tell from the photos but some new parts do differ slightly.

Perhaps we will find out on Thursday

  5. Hi Crazy Cat Lady,

I'm in desperate need of a rear sub frame for my Celica 190 gen 7, I read your post with removing your old one, would it be possible to refurbish the old one and would you consider selling it?

    cheers

    Iggsy

      Hi Iggsy,

my original rear subframe is now the property of the garage owner that did the work for me.

The last i'd heard is he's sent both my original subframes to his Dad's place [somewhere in North Wales] for bead blasting and powder coating.

The problem is; the garage owner is reluctant to sell them on without fitting it to a car.

A couple of people have already asked me about it, and ^ was the outcome.

However, i believe that even if you find a good enough donor rear subframe it will cost you £70 plus cleaning it up and painting [however you go about it] will cost more. so maybe just as well to buy a new one which i believe is around a couple of hundred quid.

Have you asked your local Mr.T if they can supply, and how much?

      Looks very nice,

I got Darren to make me some Supra dragon sticky wheel centre's which IMO make a huge improvement over the OEM sketchy stock outline of a Gen 7 [which looks like something drawn up by someones 8 year old kid]

IMO Supra dragons on the wheel centres look fab, but TBH i prefer to keep the car fairly mod free [or so that any improvements are obviously noticeable] if you know wot i mean ;)

  7. Hey Debs.... thanks for replying...Love the way people step up on this site...this car is new to me...35.5k miles so I don't think the engine mount will be worn and I know it aint been lowered because after this problem is sorted lowering along with spacers is my first mod.. I will check the camber arm bolts yes once I suss which they are ..not familiar with the setup yet...I go to Toyota for a free 15 min diagnostic mon' , see what they find , if it needs tracking should they be too pricey I spoke to another guy at prestige motors who use hunter laser tracking , they said they will help me...Craigz also replied and said he went to town on his Gen7 spent loads  as he had same problem , I the end it was bearings !!! poor guy...and mine whirr a bit so defo gonna focus on those too...

      Hello Lee,

just my 2 cents worth but:

the 15min diagnostic at the local Toyota garage is fine if free,

....but IME those places don't really have their heart cut out to fix old bangers, they like to sell brand new cars and do simply oil change services, fill the windscreen wash, empty the ash tray, and stamp the warranty book. They are also very expensive for labour charge, so please be careful in there!

On the other hand,  at the other place: the Hunter laser tracking system is the business, well worth paying them guys for the trouble to set it up properly.

I've had mine done locally here with a Hunter and very happy with the results:

That good looking young lad under my car is Micky, he was very impressed by the general condition under there - after recent sub-chassis changes and well greased up camber bolts.

However i'm also very lucky to have a very friendly & local independent Japanese car specialist in town, and he looks after my Celica like it's his own.

I'd advise you to also find a good independent garage who are Toyota or Japanese car friendly, they'll have far more time for you, be better at diagnostics, and cost loads less.

Sheffield is a big place; so ask on the forum for recommended garages near to where you are, there must be someone good nearby! : )

It sounds like you need to get your car up on a ramp, and get under there with a helpful and knowledgeable mechanic to do a very methodical underside check of everything.

How much did you pay for your Tsport? ...if you don't mind me asking? : )
