In my opinion, RCA or phono leads hands down. You can control the output level much easier on the fly and if your head unit has the capability (high pass filter), filter the bass frequencies from the door speakers so they don't distort at higher volumes.

That sounds like an amp fault to me but I could be wrong. Easiest way to test would be would be to take the speaker out and hook it up to another amp if you have one available. If it works fine, you could bypass the built in amp by running the wire directly to the speaker via the port on the side.

A replacement pair of sun visors. Something has snapped inside the driver's side one and requires two hands to either put it down or back up and the replacements seem much better. A new ECU engine temp sensor has also arrived, just waiting on a replacement cold start injector sensor to come from the states now.

Yep that's it, just with a different remote. The one I have is this one on ebay. Have a look through RightClick's stuff too, its usually the same black box but with different remotes (some are 10% off at the mo too). I'm adding mine to my gen 5 for the exact same reason as you There are cheaper options on ebay, some less than a tenner but I've used the RightClick one before and I thought paying a bit extra would be worth it. As for the extra features, yep, just dont connect them up. If the gen 4s are similar to the 5s and you only want the remote locking feature, you can actually just utilise the wiring inside the door as shown here
