  1. I did look at the last of the gen 7 GT's but they were asking too much money for a 10 year old car, So being a big birthday for me I went for the 86, luggage space hasn't caused any problems as there are only two of us now the kids have left home, a two week tour of Ireland last year was fine, didn't even have to fold the seats forward and if I need to transport a larger item I can always nick the wife' car lol. Rear wheel drive is not a big deal for me as I learned to drive in a MK1 Escort and most of my driving "education" was in rear wheel drive cars, I've always thought that rear wheel drive cars feel better balanced, but I'm comfortable driving either. At the end of the day most of us buy the car that best suits our needs, and the 86 suits most of mine atm. as for the 86 lacking power, these times tell a different story. http://fastestlaps.com/tests/df2vussaz7j1
  2. Well I've had my GT86 for a year now, I've no idea why people say they are slow, 200bhp in a lightweight car makes it very nippy, it still puts a smile on my face every time I get in it.
  3. The powers fine, the car feels quicker than the figures suggest, as for getting my ass kicked, won't happen, I have no interest in racing anyone, bit long in the tooth for that:-)
  4. I've been driving Toyota's since 1981, in that time apart from brakes, tyres, exhaust and the odd battery, I've replaced the odd bulb, one clutch, two radiators, one thermostat, one water pump, one cv joint and an advance/retard mechanism, I've only broken down once due to faulty contact breaker points (the dealer didn't replace them at a service and he paid dearly for that) that's not bad in 35 years and too many miles to even think about, my current car is a GT86 and so far that's been reliable as well. oh, and none of them failed an MOT during my ownership.
  5. Happy Birthday chelseablue!

  6. They also wrote to me ( in 1995) to tell me my late registered Carina 11 Exec was exempt from a cat test after I had issues with the mot man, it was a 1992 car, but on a K plate, very helpful at the time and seems as if they still are.
  7. Well, I'm 60 next year and as a treat to myself I'll be buying a GT86 for my birthday, should be down to around £12k by then.
  8. Happy Birthday chelseablue!

  9. Could be a faulty starter motor or solenoid, you may also have missed an earth connection, have you tried to start it with a push or tow?
  10. Looks very nice mate, but TBH, I'm looking for one with a with a much lower mileage, I know these cars will go to the moon and back, but I'm looking for a car to last me for the next six to eight years, that's when I retire:-)
  11. Thanks for all the comments guys, like I said, I'm not in a rush, will keep looking, obviously don't want to pay over the odds, but prepared to pay right price for the right car.
  12. It did feel like it had done more than 39k, pleased I had a drive though, gives me something to compare next time, I'm in no rush, my SR runs sweet, just fancy a change, I'll wait for the right car to come along, gonna try the 190/GT as well.
