  6. Now i'm confused then. I assumed it was the pre-facelift models that had the sony head unit, that had a surround. But i see yours is an 04 plate. As can be seen in my picture above my head unit isn't a sony one, nor does it have a surround. So did they just randomly keep changing the stock head units around or what?..
  7. Ok so i've hit another snag and it's a rather annoying. This is what the unit will look like in my dash: Harwood, you said to me last year "the surround for the original factory head unit just fits around the pioneer so it fits nice and flush". I've just looked at a few pictures and i can see it looks good. Problem is, my stock head unit doesn't have a surround: I'm assuming yours was a pre-facelift stereo, which was different as i've seen. So i think i'm gonna have to source a pre-facelift stereo surround ASAP, cause i cant leave it like that, it looks awful!
  8. Car Audio Centre was the second place to let me down. Try to get me to have this instead: http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=kenwood+ddx4028bt&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=WWb&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1440&bih=779&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnsfd&tbnid=LAFPoicxAd5ETM:&imgrefurl=http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/products/car/multimedia/receivers/DDX4028BT/&docid=Z6aKm9Ziu_yBoM&imgurl=http://images.kenwood.eu/files/image/2057/8/original/DDX4028BT_iPod_GER.jpg&w=1024&h=640&ei=xFf2TtqaA4be8QP1zJShAQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=166&vpy=156&dur=1534&hovh=177&hovw=284&tx=157&ty=97&sig=116656427867171835291&page=1&tbnh=109&tbnw=175&start=0&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0 It's a nice unit, with a bigger screen. It doesn't have an SD card slot though, which is key for me. I also don't like the fact that it has a dial on it, ruining the flush look. As for fitting i'm gonna use the celica brackets. I was gonna use the cage until today when i took out the stock head unit and decided it seems more simple and logical to use the stock brackets. Might just be the way i personally view it though.
  9. Yeah, i was gonna leave these wires hangin, as i'll never get a camera (i'm a bloke, i know the dimensions of my car), and i figured the mute was for other equipment. Thought i'd better check though given that one of the wires i'd planned to leave loose needs earthing. Cheers Harwood, you've been mega helpful yet again! Keep rockin'!!!
  10. One more question Harwood- did you bother wiring up the purple "reverse gear signal input" wire? And what did you do with the yellow "mute" wire? (Ok, technically that's two questions).
  11. Optional? So they don't all have them.. is it a T-sport thing then? I thought it was necessary in some way and was worried about leaving it out of the circuit, but if it's an optional extra then i guess it's not essential... I suppose i'm happy to get the job done then, perhaps first thing in the morning, shouldn't take more than half hour. I still wanna know what told me to tap into these amp cables..
  12. There are wires- one plug has a pink wire and a yellow wire coming out of it. The other has a bunch of wires. From what i noticed two are white with black stripes, and i can't remember the rest, apart from one is grey, which i think my sub is connected to. I just wish i knew where i got the info from when i wired in my sub. Surely some of these wires must go to the stock amp, which i didn't know existed until today. Didn't realise the handbrake cable had to be grounded, so cheers for that. Good job i wasn't able to get the job done.
  13. I'd like to know where the other ends of these wires are, if only out of curiosity. The iso adapter i bought? Would that be one of the two blues ones labelled "power antenna". The rest are: speakers; chassis ground; battery/constant; illumination/dash light; ignition switched. I'm not 100% certain but i think my sub's currently running of switched live. I thought the handbrake cable was just so the stereo knew when you were moving. I was just going to leave it loose.
  14. I remember that thread. It was me who asked the difference. Someone was trying to say that the 3200 doesn't have bluetooth. Made me laugh that did. I read through that guide earlier but it didn't help me unfortunately. Reckon i'll end up buying the sat nav add on for this, could do with it dropping in price a bit first though.
  15. I've wanted the 3200 for about a year (had other financial priorities), but for some odd reason it seems to be at least £50 more expensive, so i got the 3300. I don't have any I-shit either. Never have, never will.
  16. Yes,i bought the ISO adapter for £3.58 (halfrauds wanted £17!). I've been thinking and if i remember rightly the wire i've spliced the sub remote into is a switched live wire, so it comes on with the ignition. This suggests to me that this wiring plug must been in use for something, but i just can't find out what. I'm certainly not going to leave stuff unplugged until i know what it is. It is in fact the 3300BT i'm trying to install (I also had this for christmas). From what i've read it's an awesome unit, which does pretty much everything i could want it to do. Apparently the only difference between this and the 3200BT is that it has an "app mode" for I-pods and other I-stuff (which doesn't interest me in the slightest). And i suggest if you want one you'd better hurry up and get one because Pioneer aren't making any more and it's becoming difficult to get hold of- the first two places i bought it from refunded me and told me they have none, and wont be getting any more. I managed to get it last week for the cheapest price i've seen in the end (£260 delivered) from here: http://www.carsoundsandsecurity.co.uk/search/ Although the price seems to have gone up by £50 since last week.
  17. Ok, here's the deal- i just went outside to fit my new pioneer head unit in my gen 7 and found that there are four wiring plugs going into the back of the standard head unit, two of which i do not know what are for. I've just spent two hours searching the crappy internet and have found nothing. What makes it more frustrating is the fact that i must have found this info before because i've actually tapped into one of the wires on one of these plugs to hook up the remote wire of my sub and amp. Here are a couple of pics i've just taken pointing out where on the stock head unit these plugs go: Could somebody please tell me what these wires are for and how the hell i'm supposed to incorporate them into my new head unit? So far what i expected to be a 20 minute job (unplug one stereo, plug in the other) has taken about 3 hours, and now i'm going to get back out there to put it all back together before it gets dark. Didn't really wanna be putting the stock unit back in but looks like i have no choice. Many thanks in advance guys, Carl.
  18. Now come on people- i know we all love our Celicas, and all have our favourite specific generation etc. And i know we all love our fellow ccuk members, but i'm finding some of the content i'm reading here awfully distasteful, and although i wouldn't want to fall out with anyone here, i feel i have to say something. To be honest i'm quite shocked at some of these comments! The fact is- two unfortunate men lost their lives in an horrific accident. Yes, i know our cars mean the world to us, but they're certainly nowhere near as valuable as the lives of these men were to themselves and their loved ones. Rest in peace guys, i can only hope it wasn't as horrific as it looks like it could have been!
