  1. in my experience when a car starts acting it. like yours has been doing its usually time to sit down and work out how much its going to cost you to sort it to a condition where you can trust it and will be happy with it. myself my GTiii cost me over £5k over 5 years and i only had 5 individual days where the car was perfect and no niggles - when it finally let its rear calipers go for the 3rd time that was its end. I think Kazi had similar feelings when he discovered hidden rust and structural damage to his ssiii and it just became uneconomical to continue. the above where actual 3sge engined cars so have a bit of performance to keep you hooked but if it where me I would go find another gen 6 and scrap yours. for the money you will spend on the brakes and whatever else you could buy a nice GT I am going to look at an ssii with 60k on the clock at the weekend for less than a new set of brakes would cost
  2. pretty sure i have, but i am on work computer so will check later when i get home hoping to catch up with the guys when they are up in edinburgh
  3. hasn't this started? i have been seeing pics on faceballs all week????? you guys still needing that boot seal i took off
  4. the only time to consider settling outside of insurance is when the excess will cost more than the repairs
  5. its just compared to a 3sge which does the same MPG. has at least 40bhp more and just will not break. and sometimes cheaper insurance
  6. It's just a shame what kind of gen 6 it is. I know i often hate on the ST's and SSi's but if this was a GT,ssii or ssiii or heck even a GT4 it could be justifiably rescued all day long. but to through that kind of money at a car with an engine it should never have had is a hard pill to swallow. unless your name is digs......then you just go mad
  7. sand it smooth to flatten out the stone chips. the rest of the paint will just need a light rub. then primer - paint
  8. I still wouldn't buy it, 3sfe is a pointless engine as suffers reliability issues that the 3sge doesn't if its been sat for years and needs work for an MOT its sdaly not worth more than £100 and thats to someone who does't know what a 3sfe engine is. if they know what they are looking at they will turn around and walk away if it has embroidered seats then its also a 25th aniversay year model
  9. I currently own a JDM GT4 and last year i owned a UK gt4 at the same time as my JDM.....my tape measure disagrees with the width thing. as for the brakes uk cars have the exact same callipers as JDM cars. if you have an st205 with twin pot front brakes then you don't have an st205 you can get insurance for the same price regardless if its JDM or UK if you know the right people to speak toi.e. sky/adrian flux/green light etc to name but a few.
  10. owned both a uk GT4 and a jdm GT4 both ST205 at the same time. insurance for both was around £350 each through greenlight. I am right about the power figures. as the moment you drive it off the boat its no longer getting 100RON fuel and at best its getting 98 or 99RON.
  11. Insurance is a common myth as they can be insured for the same price at the right insurer Also a jdm car only makes 255bhp in Japan, in the UK it will make the exact same power as a UK car. Only reason to buy a jdm st205 imo is for the climate control. Otherwise they are identical
  12. funny how everyone finds things different. having had several. its always the gen5 seats that give me lumbar pain. where as i can sit in a gen6 seat all day. yet i know people who are the complete opposite
  13. its one thing to mention the power difference between the 185 and the 205. btu the 205 is also lighter. anyone who has had to push a 185 knows all to well that 205-215hp is not enough to push nearly 1500kg of car. the 205 is by far the best celica ever made. nothing even comes close to how they feel to drive. I can assure you that you will not be happy with a standard 185 or even a standard CS/RC as you will want more power. they are also prone to a bit of the rustage, where as with a gen6 all thats really going to rust is the bottoms of the doors for the record I have owned and driven both and also driven standard and modified 185s
  14. I think he is using the excuse that it wont start as a good sound reason to rip out the avensis engine (which should never have been fitted to a celica in my opinion) and fit something more befitting. like a 3sge,2zzge or even a 1mz I know some people disagree with me, bu i always recommend people to not look after an FE toyota engine, once they start acting up or burning oil you are best thrashing the life out of it until it dies good luck on your project and can't wait to see what you go with
  15. Needs more than a drivers bearing and caliper..........it needs burned with fire
  16. Once the rust sets in on a gen5 it's walk away time. They sadly aren't even worth breaking.
  17. Satin black wheels no center caps on storm blue gen 7
  18. they usually burn oil and run way to rich, you must have a good one
  19. I am more impressed that an ST passed an emisions test gen 6 passing an MOT is never a surprise to me
  20. They aren't the same in can tell you that without part numbers
  21. what would have caused the engine to sieze though?? is it possible that the starter isn't getting enough current?
  22. If the fuel pump is running my money would then be on the battery
