  2. Hi All, Apologies if this has been done but I thought I'd put it out there... I read a recent post by Skatz and it got me thinking it might be time we had a place to tell those stories of genuine feel good moments of owning your Celica (of all generations) Comment made by the public that's put a mahoosive smile on your face. moments of sheer driving pleasure that sort of thing... I'd love to hear more stories like Skatz's post and I'm sure others would too. (I'll not link that post here cos he may want to post it himself.) Of course this is not a one a day kinda thread if you have plenty of them please share them all! Only rules to this are the stories have to be about your Celica and inter generational sniping is not allowed. I'll get the ball rolling... A few weeks back before my car was in the beat up state it's in now, I was parked on my local Sainsbury's car park (other supermarkets are available), I'd just pulled up as I heard they had a promo on beer for the WC. 3 boxes for £10 is not to be sniffed at! Anyway, it's a hot day, windows are down and just as I start to put them up, this rather lovely looking lady bends down and pops her head at window height and the following conversations ensues: Lady: "Nice car pal, I like these" Me (rather bashfully) "Thanks, glad you like it" after a 5 minute conversation purley about the car she ending with... Lady: "Bet it's a bit of a babe magnet isn't it" Me (going 50 shades of red) "er... obviously it is, yes" - smooth I know lol She then smiled rather cheekily and walked away. Anyway, I go into said supermarket, buy my beers and walk back to the car. As I'm walking back I notice something on my windscreen and at this point I'm going mad in my head thinking it's a parking ticket. As I get closer to the car I notice it's a bit of paper folded up under my wiper... it read "Call me 07xxxxxxxxx - Bridget" Of course I'm a married man, I have not called and I have safely disposed of said paper away from prying eyes. Did I bin it? No, No, No... it's now a trophy safely nestled around page 20 of my favorite rag mag! A place the wife will never look The Celica now aka 'Babe Magnet' pulled me a woman! - Get In!!

  3. We were back at Prescott for one of their evening meets Wheels at Prescott last week. It's a casual meet for any cars that want to turn up, opportunity to chat and have food if wanted. We were almost the last to leave, so managed to get a couple of photos in the Paddock of the cars on their own This next photo is on behalf of LD50 - same photo really from the other side

  8. Had this sitting on my memory stick and thought I'd share this for you folk. This is the real deal with all the bells and whistles!. Bodyshop I worked in, next field Carlos Sainz chief mechanic and long term friend lived in the next field to us, yep his mechanic from wee northern ireland. Anyway Toyota let Carlos keep the actual car that won!, they have the other car in their factory. So she's the real thing!. Brought it back to Spain and she sat there for years in Carlos vineyard, until he decided to restore the car and enter her in a classic rally. So we got the contract to restore her, his mechanic was the only one ever allowed near it. So he was with us every step of the way. Had the car for about 6-7 months, I was doing my apprenticeship at the time so I did get to help with this amazing piece of history. She turned out beautiful and Carlos was over the moon with her. She sits nicely and comfortably in his showroom over in Spain, he brings her out for special runs, so she's still doing what she was born to do, rally!. So here is a piece of Rally history, that actually survived, which is cherished by its actual driver himself, Carlos will never ever part with it, so she's safe with the only man that ever drove her. She was a joy to work on, all the heavy duty skilled work was carried out by the senior guys, but I helped and did my part. All decals came from Toyota to make her as she was, I did have photos of her in her original form, she was of course a little rough and battle damaged from the stages when Carlos took her home, but she's straight as an arrow and beautiful, she still gets out and rallies. Oh the guy in the pic isn't me lol....I was only a youngster when this was taken lol, guy in the pic is Carlos chief mechanic collecting her, before taking her to the boat to go back to Spain. Carlos sent word back how much he appreciated us and the old girl will continue what she was made for. Enjoy!.

  12. So , I got fed up having to share seat time with my lad . I decided to look for another yellow gen7 for him in keeping with team colours. A 1999 ss11 came up for sale not too far away at a reasonable price. Body has no rot but isn't the tidiest in the paint department. Problem was that the guy had bought it to do an mr2 2zz swap so this meant it was minus the engine, gearbox, ecu and a few other bits. I later found out that it was originally fitted with the trd lsd from the factory and that the guy had only given a grand for it The jammy sod. Anyway long story short I fitted my old 2zz ,stage 2 cams, cwx oil pump, morosso sump , competition clutch lightweight flywheel and my mate Dave Traviss gave me a lightly used ACT clutch, legend. I fitted this along with a second hand box and an import ecu from an auto. Runs great but throws an eml due to ecu being from auto but not too fussed about that tbh. My lad has bought a set of bc coilies and I've ordered an ally under tray. Should make a cracking track car being the superstrut and having a fairly free revving engine with the cams and flywheel. Still not quite finished as there has been no rush but she's getting there. Hopefully will be out on track this year Fingers crossed he isn't quicker than me

  15. So here you go....... Calendars should be available to pre-order from tomorrow evening, we are expecting the calendars to reach us by the end of next week. We will be posting out orders as soon as we get them, some of you might even have them between Christmas and New Year but we can't promise anything! I would say early Jan to take into account any delays in the postal system. Prices are: £12 posted or £10 collected from Bryan in Norwich or even the club party in January.

  17. I drove up to the top of the Col Agnel in my ST162. The col Agnel is a high pass located in the Alps between France and Italy. The summit is an altitude of 2744m above sea level. It was a perfect night! This is a single exposure, the car and landscape is lit only by the starlight and our home galaxy, the Milky Way.

  22. You never know who you are talking to some times. We went food shopping today and as I pulled into the carpark of our local small supermarket, Stans, I spotted this Gen5 parked up. I told Sian that I'd see her inside because I wanted to take a couple of pictures. As I did that, the owner turned up and was very friendly and happy to talk. I did of course ask him to join CCUK (as you do). He said he had spoken to a few Gen5 owners up at the Ponderosa a few years back. Sounds like he bumped into a Gen5 North Wales weekend. Anyway, we talked for a bit and he mentioned that he was a race driver of a Lotus Elise. I neglected to ask him his name When I got home I googled and googled doing my best Sherlock Holmes and after zooming in on the photo I got a clue to follow. The owner is Danny Holland and his story is incredible. He was a Welsh Guard and was seriously injured by an IED in Helmand, Afghanistan. He had always loved motorsport and the Army introduced a karting activity for injured servicemen. He jumped at the chance and ended up racing for the team. He has progressed now and is driving a Lotus Elise competitively. He has recovered from PTSD, shrapnel and serious brain injuries along with the loss of hearing in one ear. This guy is something else and such a nice bloke to stand and talk to an old fart like me. Check him out, "Danny Holland Racing" on FB and his story here http://www.motorsport-wales.co.uk/danny-holland-injured-welsh-guard-to-racing-driver/ Don't click the links at the bottom of the page, they take you to weird places!
